I, Daniel Blake (15)

Director Ken Loach. Drama

A 59 year old carpenter recovering from a heart attack, befriends a single mum and her two kids as they navigate their way through the kafkaesque impersonal benefits system. With equal amounts of humour, warmth and despair. Heartfelt and emotional until the end.

Flicks Advisor (comments from our film promoters)

Hard-hitting mix of humour, disbelief and sadness managed to draw a respectable size audience. The social realism made uneasy viewing for some. Excellent production and clear why an award winner.

Well received by all. Made one think!

Absolutely deserving of its Awards. In the latter half of the film you could "hear a pin drop". Many unbelieving that this could be near the truth - and others reassuring them that it is true to life. Brilliant and thought-provoking. But then it's Ken Loach.
